Starting a blog in 2027 is financial suicide. Social platforms suppress links, Google steals content to feed their AI summaries, talented journalists are hard to come by, advertising rates are unreliable, and the attention span of a normal adult is on the decline. All things that go against operating a modern-day "blog". We know this because we also own [RetroDodo](https://retrododo.com/?ref=packdodo.com), a retro gaming news and reviews publication with over 500,000 followers and millions of readers since its founding in 2019.

We're taking all of our knowledge learned from independently building Retro Dodo over the last 7 years and are pouring it into a new project about another one of our passions: **trading cards**.

Shiny pieces of cardboard have been a hobby of mine since the late 90s. I vividly remember opening a pack of base set Pokémon cards with my dad outside of newsagents in the UK, and it contained what is still one of my favourite cards today, a holographic Machamp. I knew that this Machamp carved a core memory for me, and now, almost 30 years later, I am turning that core memory into a living blog, packed with original stories, fast-paced news and reviews of products that the Pack Dodo team find intriguing.

This isn't going to be a normal blog, or a typical news publication; we're diving deep into the obscure, rarely publicised cards, unique original stories not written anywhere else, alongside the typical news and reviews reporting that has made Retro Dodo so successful. A hybrid of publishing and storytelling, written by humans, not robots.

Pack Dodo will focus on non-sports cards, the stuff we love. Monsters, magicians, video games, beasts, robots, dragons, and more. I want this to feel like a digital magazine, like the ones you explored back in the 90s, riddled with facts, opinions, news, and goodies, all while putting the spotlight on well-deserved businesses, services and products in the space.

If you want to be one of the first to explore our blog once it opens for business, make sure to subscribe to our newsletter; we'll send you an email when we're finished tinkering! There's lots to still be done, primarily production of content, but also web design, video content planning and perfecting our taste, which is what will make our blog so unique. We can't wait to open our doors and give you a unique corner of the web that entertains and informs about all things obscure trading cards.

See you soon,

Team Pack Dodo
